Police have named a woman who died in hospital after being hit by a motorbike.
Flavia Tumwijukye, 51, was fatally injured as she crossed Great Junction Street in the Leith area of Edinburgh at 11.50am on Friday.
Ms Tumwijukye, from the Kabale Kinkizi district of Uganda, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she later died.
A statement from her relatives said: “The family of Flavia Pamela Tumwijuke is devastated by the sudden death of their daughter, sister, aunty, grandmother and friend to so many people in UK and Uganda in east Africa.
“Flavia met her untimely death while on her visit to Edinburgh on September 27 2013, a city she loved and has visited before for the Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Tattoo.
“Her death has left a great void in the lives of so many.”
Ms Tumwijukye attended college in London and worked part-time with Southmead Hospital in Bristol. She was described as a “very kind and generous” person who donated money from her salary to found two schools for orphans.
“The country of Uganda has lost an invaluable daughter and ambassador,” her family said.
The 23-year-old motorbike rider was also taken to hospital but his condition is not serious.
