Government under fire over rail cuts

The Scottish Government has been accused of slashing planned improvements for
one of the country’s busiest rail lines.

The project to upgrade the main Edinburgh-to-Glasgow line is now a “shadow of its former self”, Labour said, following £300 million worth of savings.

Labour’s transport spokeswoman Elaine Murray questioned whether changes to the programme’s funding were the reason for it being scaled back. In a debate, she asked transport minister Keith Brown: “Did you overpromise on the improvement programme?”
