The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been contact for comment but so far, little information has been revealed about the ongoing operation.

A spokesman said: “QRA Typhoon Fighters have been launched and are being supported by a Voyager tanker, however, we do not offer comment on ongoing operations.”

Air Force and Navy Monitoring group Mil Radar posted about the sightings at Leuchars today on Twitter.

RAF fighter jets intercepted two Russian aircraft off the Scottish Coast on Saturday, September 12.

MoD said that the RAF Typhoons, which are based at RAF Lossiemouth, were scrambled after the Russian aircraft “entered the UK’s controlled zone of international airspace”.
