Dundee 0 - 3 Partick Thistle: Cairney goals just the hat-trick

PAUL Cairney scored a hat-trick for Partick Thistle as they handed out a football lesson to Dundee, writes Robert Thomson at Dens Park.

The midfielder would have had four had Rab Douglas, who produced a number of saves to prevent the scoreline turning into a total humiliation, not got down to block a second-half penalty before eventually being beaten from the spot in the dying seconds.

Jackie McNamara’s team were streets ahead of Dundee, whose players appear to have gone on holiday early and Partick broke the initial impasse after 35 minutes when Chris Erskine squared a pass to Cairney for a tap in. On 53 minutes McGregor was penalised for pulling Mark McGuigan back inside the box but Douglas denied Cairney’s penalty. But he was not to be denied more goals, producing a superb finish by flicking the ball over the on-rushing Douglas from 16 yards and then in the dying seconds making amends from the spot after McGregor – who was red carded – felled Sean Welsh.
