Hunt after slash attack

A MAN needed hospital treatment after he was slashed across the face in an "unprovoked" knife attack in broad daylight.

The 48-year old was walking home from the Nicolson Street Tesco in Edinburgh when he was attacked in Haddon's Court.

The attacker slashed him then escaped into Howden Street and then into Gilmour Street.

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for information about the slashing, which happened at around 11am on Monday.

The victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was given stitches and later discharged.

The suspect is white, in his mid-20s and had a shaved head.
