Scottish Labour leader candidates set for tour

LABOUR has unveiled a series of leadership hustings over the next month involving the three candidates to replace Johann Lamont.

Former Scottish secretary Jim Murphy, Holyrood health spokesman Neil Findlay and former transport minister Sarah Boyack are to take parts in the events across Scotland.

The first will be staged in Dundee next Thursday and is followed by an event the following Sunday in Glasgow. Other meetings in Dumfries, Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen and Cumbernauld are all earmarked.

The candidates are also set to address the Scottish Womens’ conference, the Youth and Student conference the councillors’ Conference in Glasgow later this month.

Katy Clark, the MP for North Ayrshire and Arran, has today received the backing of the Musician’s Union (MU) in her bid to become Deputy leader.

Ms Clark, who is up against Lothians MSP Kezia Dugdale for the deputy leadership said the endorsement reflects her commitment to issues important to union members.

“These range from specific issues such as promoting culture in society through to more general issues that affect all workers such as employment rights and low pay,” she said.

The results of the Labour leadership will be announced on December.
