Taking shape

How interesting that First Minister Alex Salmond should, in his New Year message (your report, 31 December) choose to look to John Logie Baird, Alexander Fleming and James Watt as examples of Scots who have “shaped the modern world”.

Indeed they have Mr Salmond. They did this along with countless other Scots following the creation of the UK. Is this not the very Union that is now apparently so bad for us? One can only presume Mr Salmond had trouble finding Scots who “shaped the modern world” before this time.
