A couple sitting down to a romantic steak dinner were shocked to find a rotting dead bird in a Tesco ready-to-eat salad.

James and Jasmine Watson made the grim discovery of the decaying bird only when the contents of a Tesco salad bag marked “washed and ready to eat” were emptied onto the plate, and Mr Watson had begun eating.

The disgusted couple went to their nearby branch of Tesco in Yate, Gloucestershire to complain to the retail giant.

Tesco have reportedly offered the couple a £200 voucher after the blackcap European warbler was found, while the retailer says it is investigating the matter with its supplier.

The news comes as a blow for Tesco after it has recently removed several products from its shelves after tests found horse DNA in bolognaise and burgers.
