The 71-year-old car driver was uninjured but his passenger, a 70-year-old woman, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with slight injuries.

Inspector Scott Mann, of the Grampian Road Policing Unit, said: "We are continuing to make inquiries to establish the cause of the collision which led to Mr Begg's death.

"We've interviewed a number of witnesses and I'd like to thank those who have contacted us with information.

"That said, I'd still like to hear from anyone who may have seen a male walking on the A952 south of Mintlaw between 9pm and 9.50 pm on Sunday evening or indeed who may have been driving on that stretch of road within those times."
