Cowdenbeath 1 - 1 Livingston: Spoils shared in terrible conditions

Faced with atrocious conditions it was to the credit of both sets of players that they served up some decent entertainment with their contrasting styles of play and a share of the points was just about the right result at Central Park.

Without a win in their last ten league fixtures, Cowdenbeath had nevertheless clearly taken heart from a spirited performance in their much-delayed Scottish Cup tie against St Johnstone at the beginning of last week and opened this game in determined fashion. With only a minute on the clock, a corner led to an almighty scramble in the Livingston box and Marc MacKenzie scored from close range.

It took Livingston some time to get into their stride and Colin Cameron’s men came close to doubling their advantage when Kevin McCann was fortunate not to put the ball into his own net as he knocked a MacKenzie cross onto a post. In response, Keaghan Jacobs did well to create some space for himself on the edge of the Cowden box but his rising shot cleared the bar by some distance.

The West Lothian side dominated after the interval but found it difficult to make inroads against a resolute Cowden rearguard well marshalled by Joseph Mbu. Opportunities for the Fifers were confined to sporadic breakaways but MacKenzie nearly grabbed a second following a darting run and shot that just slid wide. Shortly afterwards
Livingston’s persistence finally paid off when Stefan Scougall knocked home a lay-off from substitute Jordan Morton.

The game opened up after this and Scougall missed a glorious chance when he sliced the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.
