Distance learning first for the Gaelic

A DISTANCE learning degree in Gaelic is being offered for the first time.

The University of the Highlands and Islands campus at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic college on Skye, will offer the course from September.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig began delivering an access course for beginners in 2000 through distance learning, and over 1,500 people have now undertaken it.

An advanced course was made available in 2006 as a distance learning course, due to demand from students who wished to achieve full fluency.

It will now be possible for students to complete the modules for years two to four of two BA (honours) degree programmes through distance learning – the degree in Gaelic and Development and degree in Gaelic Language and Culture.
