Ex-Moderator takes on role as volunteers chief

A FORMER church moderator has been appointed as convener of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations.

Dr Alison Elliot, former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, has a long history of charity work and says she is well aware of the frustrations of chasing funding for community projects.

A former psychology lecturer, she is an Honorary Fellow at Edinburgh University, a trustee of Community Service Volunteers and the Scottish Malawi Foundation, and has taken part in working groups on health, criminal justice, asylum policy, constitutional matters and land reform.

Dr Elliot said: "I've long been impressed by the energy and imagination of SCVO.

"Scotland is lucky to have a vibrant voluntary sector and I'm looking forward to being more involved with it through SCVO."
