Bus group on the right road with volunteer programme

LOTHIAN Buses has been praised in the Scottish round of the European Employee Volunteer Awards.

The company was highly commended for its employee volunteer programmes with local schools, including its involvement in the Prince's Mayday Network Environmental Enterprise Challenge.

Dr Steve Johnson, environmental manager at Lothian Buses, said: "The volunteer programme consists of a range of activities which are designed to educate young people about the kind of skills they might require in the workplace, and the range of differing roles and responsibilities which any organisation must bring together to be successful.

"Lothian Buses employees working in the school engagement team have been able to develop their personal skills and the wider, social and educational impact of our work with schools will go some way to challenging perceptions and misconceptions that both young people and the bus industry may have with each other."
