BARGAIN hunters with a taste for the macabre snapped up a variety gruesome pieces of history when the London Dungeon sold off some of its unwanted props.

Blood-curdling artefacts such a selection of “torture and surgical equipment”, “severed limbs”, “false eyeballs”, “plague doctor’s potions”, “Sweeney Todd razors”, shackles and chains and blood-stained period costumes were put up for sale.

Other items included a real human skeleton and a set of authentic stocks, which have held several famous names – including Jonathan Ross, Christina Aguilera, Michael Douglas and Alice Cooper – were also snapped up at a car boot sale in Pimlico yesterday.

The London Dungeon announced the gory sale last month as it is moving to a new venue within the underground vaults of County Hall, on the Southbank, in March.

The establishment has been in its current site on Tooley Street for 38 years.
