Aberdeen Lord Provost opens city children’s home

A NEW children’s home in Aberdeen was officially opened today by the city’s Lord Provost Councillor George Adam.

The Marchburn Road Children’s Home in the city’s Northfield area will provide residential accommodation for six vulnerable 12 to 18 year-olds.

The home features six en suite bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and dining area, and a family room providing a private area for visits by relatives and friends. It will be staffed by a team of 15.

Councillor Adam said: “This fantastic facility is evidence of the city’s commitment to providing safe, secure and, most importantly, appropriate accommodation for looked after children in Aberdeen.

“This is a place where vulnerable children can feel cared for and valued by trusted and trained adults and somewhere they can be nurtured, looked after and challenged as they negotiate the right paths in their lives.”

Liz Taylor, the council’s Director of Social Care and Wellbeing, said: “As a council we firmly believe that Aberdeen’s vulnerable children should be cared for in the city where possible.

“Marchburn Road is one element of our strategy to achieve this by ensuring young people stay close to home for care and avoid any unnecessary upheaval by being placed many miles away from family and friends.

“We want our young people, with our support and the support of other organisations in the city, to develop into adults who care about themselves and those around them and who will make a positive contribution to Aberdeen and the wider world.”
