The 19-year old spent time on loan at Bolton Wanderers last season, playing under former Hoops boss Neil Lennon, and could be ready to make the switch north of the border.

The Swiss right-back initially signed for United from FC Zurich in 2013 for a fee of £700,000 but is no longer in manager Louis Van Gaal’s long-term plans.

On paper, Celtic appear pretty set at right-back with Adam Matthews and Mikael Lustig. However, both players have had injury problems throughout their time at Parkead, while Matthews has recently been linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers.

If Celtic can seal the deal, Janko will become the second summer signing after Dedryck Boyata was purchased from United’s crosstown rivals Manchester City.
