Golf: Cat all set for Carnoustie

North BERWICK'S Catriona Matthew was well in contention at halfway but weekend rounds of 73 and 74 saw her drop back as Japan's Ai Miyazato claimed her second Evian Masters in three years in France.

Miyazato has been badly affected by her country's earthquake in March - she has already raised thousands for a charity fund - and, after a closing 70, she revealed some of the 300,000 prize money would be going to the cause.

Ahead by two at the start of the day, she finished on 15 under par and two shots better than American Stacy Lewis, who also shot 70. Matthew, meantime, could take encouragement from a decent four days before heading home for the Ricoh Women's British Open starting at Carnoustie on Thursday.

After finishing on two under par and in a share of 36th place, the 2009 British Open champion said: "This Evian course was wet and soft and it should be very different conditions this week. I'm really looking forward to Carnoustie. I played there around ten weeks ago and I know it is going to be in great shape. I've also won there before (at the 1991 Scottish Amateur Championship) so I can call on good memories."
