The 54-year-old singer/songwriter is expected to revisit his musical past on Sunday July 21, at Edinburgh Castle when he fronts the second of this year’s Castle Concerts, entertaining an expected 8500 fans on the Castle Esplanade.

The performer said: “I’m looking forward to playing a gig at Edinburgh Castle this summer. It will be a top show.”

Barry Wright, co-founder of concert promoter Regular Music, said: “We are delighted to confirm Paul Weller as our second show for Edinburgh Castle this summer. Paul’s musical career has made him an inspiration to today’s artists and an icon for all generations. We are excited to add Paul to our summer nights series of concerts and we know he is looking forward to performing his only Scottish show here this summer.”

Although not being billed as a “greatest hits concert”, music insiders say Weller is expected to perform songs from his back catalogue of hits, including Going Underground and Beat Surrender with The Jam, and Speak Like A Child and Long Hot Summer with The Style Council.

No stranger to the Capital, Weller played here with The Jam on no fewer than five occasions.

Tickets for his gig, priced £40-£45, go on sale at 9am on Friday from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and 08444 999990.
