It’s known as a ‘contact lens for the ear’ – so small and discreet that it is invisible, never needs new batteries and doesn’t have to be removed when having a shower.

The Lyric hearing aid, available from Fairfield Hearing, is a technological advance that has been welcomed by many, particularly those who either don’t get on with conventional hearing aids, or dislike wearing a visible device.

What makes the Lyric innovative?

It’s biggest selling point is that is is totally invisible, and sits quite far into the ear canal, making it not only discreet but an all-round good performer. It’s comfortable enough to wear all day and all night, and can, if you wish, stay in for months without needing to be removed. While it is not waterproof, it is splashproof, so it can stay in place while you shower.

And of course, being inside the ear canal, your hair style, or whether you wear glasses, doesn’t affect its comfort or performance.

Developers Phonak say advantages in technology mean this works even harder than conventional hearing aids with noisy backgrounds. It’s design and positioning next to the ear drum means it captures sound in a very natural way, offering improved performance.

Real feedback

According to a survey carried out by the manufaxcturer 93 per cent* of Lyric users would recommend it, and 86 per cent** say the sound is natural, allowing them to hear better than they had in months, and allowing them to forget all about their hearing loss. Pete said: “Because you never take it out, you never put it back, you feel like a regular person. You’re all whole again.”
