Eurotunnel has record traffic

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London’s Olympic Games helped Channel Tunnel company Eurotunnel achieve a record year.

Revenues last year increased by 14 per cent to €993.1 million (£835.4m), with almost 20 million passengers travelling through the Channel on all services, figures yesterday revealed.

The shuttle business’s revenues rose by 16 per cent, which the company said put it “way ahead of its rivals as world leader in piggyback transport”.

Eurotunnel’s traffic also continued to grow, to approach 2.5 million passenger vehicles.

The company said: “Major events such as the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympic Games were catalysts for this traffic.”
