Opera review: Beth, Venue 9

A MUSICAL version of Macbeth in which all the characters’ sexes are reversed sounds like it might be an interesting Fringe curio, but this production from young theatre group Violet Shock has an end-of-term feel to it.

RATING: * *

Real effort has been made with the set, costumes and soundtrack, although the latter does grate a bit, and there are some promising young performers here, particularly the trio who play the “Wyrd Brothers”. Yet it’s undoubtedly an amateur production with an inexperienced cast, and the 90-minute running time is an endurance test for Fringe audiences used to shorter shows.
