Scottish women lose

SCOTLAND'S women lost their final Six Nations match last night, going down to a 15-3 defeat to their Irish counterparts in Ashbourne, County Meath.

The Scots, who still harboured hopes of finishing third in the final standings before the match, played well in the first half and were tied 3-3 when the first 40 minutes came to an end. The points for Scotland were from the boot of international debutante Nicola Halfpenny.

In the second half, however, the hosts took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored 12 unanswered points to win.

The Scots won one game – against France – drew with Italy but lost their other three matches in this year's tournament.
