Scots team up the ante in Argentina

Scotland's amateurs shaved eight shots off their opening-round effort on day two of the women's world team championship but still finished well off the pace in the race for the Espirito Santo Trophy in Argentina.

The trio of Kelsey MacDonald, Louise Kenney and Sally Watson, 15 shots behind the leaders heading into the second round, posted a one-under 143 at the Buenos Aires club for a six-over total of 294.

Lesley Nicholson's side finished 21 strokes behind South Korea, who powered to the front with a dazzling 16-under 128 for a 15-under 273.

Curtis Cup player Watson was the pick of the Scots with a two-under 70 while Pitreavie's Kenney added a 73. Scottish champion MacDonald had a non-counting 77.

South Korea, the dominant force in women's pro golf, surged to the top boosted by an eight-under 63 from Ji-Hee Kim and a 65 from Jung-Euan Han to finish a stroke ahead of the USA who had a 138. Title-holders Sweden moved up the order with a nine-under 135 for a 281.
