Rallying: David Bogie breaks 14-year drought

Double Scottish champion David Bogie began his bid to claim the British Championship for the first time by winning the opening round, the Bournemouth-based Rallye Sunseeker.

The significance of Bogie's win was highlighted by the fact it's the first time a Scot has won a round of the BRC since Lanark's Alister McRae won the Scottish Rally in 1997.

Bogie, the 23-year-old from Dumfries, was fastest through five of the 11 stages in his Mitsubishi Evo IX. The Scot eventually sealed his maiden BRC victory at the end of the 67-mile event by 21.8-seconds ahead of Aberdovey's Tom Cave driving another Mitsubishi.

"It's the perfect way to start the season," said Bogie, co-driven by Hawick's Kevin Rae and who also won last weekend's opening round of the Scottish Championship, the Snowman in Inverness.
