Premier Two: Stew-Mel go clear

THE top-of-the-table clash at Riverside saw visitors Stewart’s-Melville open the gap at the top in RBS Premier Division 2 to five points with a 26-22 win over Jed-Forest. The match was tied 13-13 at the break, but Stew-Mel edged it in the second half with tries from Alan Hughes, Mark Hanney and Alan Walker, while Seb Trotter banged over a conversion and two penalties.

Hamilton picked up three points in a high-scoring draw at Falkirk, pulling back from 28-11 down at half-time to 35-35 at full-time, a result which moves them into third spot above Watsonians on points differential. Hamilton’s Ross Ingles notched a try, three conversions and three penalties to pick up an individual haul of 20 points.

Hillhead-Jordanhill grabbed a crucial home win, beating Watsonians 30-27, a result which sees the Myreside outfit drop to fourth spot. Selkirk are a rung lower after going down 35-3 in the border derby at Kelso.

Peebles claimed their third win of the season with a 29-20 scoreline at the Gytes against near neighbours Biggar, but are still bottom of the table. At Aurs Road, Whitecraigs leapfrogged opponents West with a 28-15 win.
