McLean is sole capped player in national finals

BOWLS: Former British Isles singles champion Iain McLean is the only capped player to have reached the semi finals of the National Singles. McLean reached the finals weekend with a 21-19 win over East Lothian legend Willie Wood, before recording a 21-15 win over Graham Alexander from Turriff. McLean is joined in the last four by former World Bowls player Douglas Lambert (Perth), Jim Byron (Cumbernauld) and Kenny Paton, from Dumbarton. The finals weekend will take place at Ardrossan over the weekend of the 2 and 3 December.

Meanwhile, Neil Speirs secured the first place in the Scottish Champion of Champions final, which will take place during the televised World Bowls Tour event at Perth in November. Speirs had three narrow wins against international colleagues Brian Irvine, Alex Kelly and Mike Stepney. The second half of the competition will take place at Arbroath on Sunday 23 October with the final at the Dewars Centre in Perth on Saturday 12 November.
