Louis Oosthuizen ruled out of event in Bermuda

Open champion Louis Oosthuizen has pulled out of next week's money-spinning Grand Slam in Bermuda because of his ankle injury.

The 36-hole event is intended to bring together the season's four major winners, but South African Oosthuizen is the second player to withdraw.

Masters winner Phil Mickelson, who has been suffering from psoriatic arthritis, decided not to make the trip and was replaced Ernie Els, and now Oosthuizen's spot goes to American David Toms.

Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who captured the US Open in June, and German Martin Kaymer, winner of the US PGA Championship, complete the line-up competing for a first prize of 376,000. Second place is worth 188,000, third 156,000 and even the player finishing last takes home 125,000.

Oosthuizen damaged ligaments stepping into a pothole and could not play last week's Dunhill Links Championship either.

Meanwhile, a celebration pro-am, being organised to mark the 40th anniversary of the European Tour and the 20th anniversary of Seve Ballesteros's last successes in the PGA Championship and World Match Play Championship, was unveiled by the Tour yesterday. The Seve Ballesteros Invitational Pro-Am, with a field of 18 professionals, will take place at Wentworth on 23 May next year, the week of the BMW PGA Championship.

The European Tour also announced it has raised its mandatory membership requirement by one tournament for the second year in a row taking it to 13 events.
