Golf: Winter League final kicks off busy time for Royal Burgess

ROYAL BURGESS will meet Dalmahoy in the final of the West Edinburgh Winter Golf League after pipping Turnhouse for top spot in their group.

A 4-0 win over Ratho Park in their last outing gave the Barnton side the two points needed to earn them a crack at the title on Sunday week.

The final, which will be played at Ratho Park, marks the start of a busy spell for Royal Burgess.

On April 3, they play the first leg of the Inter-Cities Cup against Bishopbriggs in Glasgow, with the return encounter back in the Capital the following weekend.

Then, at the start of May, Richard Hughes's side launch their defence of the Edinburgh Summer League title with a home match against Turnhouse.

But first things first, and the meeting with Dalmahoy will be a repeat of last year's final.

That was decided by a sudden-death play-off, which Dalmahoy won after an exciting tie at Bruntsfield ended in a 2-2 draw.

"We had won the title for the previous three years and five times in the previous six years, so we were obviously upset at losing, but all credit to Dalmahoy who deserved it on the day," said Hughes.
