Golf: Oldcorn overcomes wind to breeze home in Trophy

EUROPEAN Senior Tour player Andrew Oldcorn showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels in winning yesterday's Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance event at The Glen.

On a day when a stiff breeze had a cool bite to it, making for testing conditions, the King's Acre man carded an excellent one-under-par 69 to claim the overall prize, The Berwickshire Trophy.

His effort was also the best scratch score of the day, Oldcorn finishing three shots ahead of Peebles player Jamie Morris, with another man representing the Borders club, Colin Fraser, among those a farther shot adrift.

Also in the group sharing third were the consistent Andy Marshall of Houston Golf Range and West Lothian pro and former Scottish Boys' champion Alan Reid. Lothianburn's Alex McKenzie claimed the handicap honours as four shots separated the top nine players.

Playing off five, he signed for a 70 to pip Harrison's Justin White by a shot, with a fellow four-handicapper, Dunbar's Wilson Morton, a shot farther back in third.

Eyemouth player Daniel Wood picked up another top trainee prize with a 74, the same score that earned Harburn's William Smith the senior spoils.

The next outing is at Craigielaw in a fortnight.
