THE SPFL is searching for a solution to the potential end-of-season fixture problem which arose after Hibernian were drawn against Falkirk in the semi-final of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

That means one of the two Championship clubs will reach the final on Saturday 30 May and one of them could also reach the two-legged Premiership play-off final scheduled for 28 & 31 May.

In order to give the Scottish Cup finalists a free week to prepare, the only option available would be to delay the play-off final to the next week. The Champions League final is on Saturday 6 June and Uefa rules state it must have that date to itself. Possibilities are to have the play-off final on Tuesday 2 June and Friday 5 June or Wednesday 3 June and Sunday 7 June.

An SPFL spokesman said: “In the event that either club progresses to both the Scottish Cup final and the play-off final it will not be required to play on 30 and 31 May. An alternative schedule will be announced for the Premiership play-off final.”
