Second Division round-up: Byrne inspires Brechin to third after Forfar demolition

ALL the results from yesterday’s Second Division action where there were also wins for East Fife, Queen of the South and Alloa, whilst Stranraer and Albion Rovers shared the points.

East Fife 2, Arbroath 1

Sean Jamieson deservedly put East Fife ahead after good work by Bobby Barr.

Paul Currie equalised two minutes from the break, but Scott McBride put East Fife back in front before Currie hit the crossbar, the home side ultimately taking full points.

Queen of the South 2, Ayr United 0

League leaders Queen of the South broke the deadlock in 16 minutes when Ryan McGuffie headed home.

Top scorer Nicky Clark made it 2-0 ten minutes into the second half and Queens had chances to add to their advantage, but found Ally Brown in good form.

Stenhousemuir 0, Alloa Athletic 2

Kevin Cawley opened the scoring with a right-foot shot and Stephen Simmons added a second before half-time with an overhead kick.

Brad McKay almost pulled a goal back in the second half but saw his effort come crashing back off the crossbar.

Stranraer 1, Albion Rovers 1

Albion took the lead before the break when top scorer David Crawford drilled home a left-foot shot.

Stranraer hit back with Chris McCluskey saving well from Robert Love and Craig Malcolm, before Malcolm equalised in injury-time with a penalty.

Brechin City 4, Forfar Athletic 1

Jonathan Brown gave Brechin a 15th-minute lead with a right-foot shot from Kurtis Byrne’s pass. Forfar’s Chris Templeman missed a penalty and then Byrne made it 2-0 from the spot. Andy Jackson added a third before Ross Campbell pulled a goal back. Jackson completed the scoring.
