Hutton seals move to Villa in final minutes of window

ALAN Hutton signed for Aston Villa late last night in a deal that will keep him at the Birmingham club until 2015

He had been given permission earlier in the day to leave the Scotland camp to discuss the move from Tottenham to the Midlands.

It’s understood Fulham were also keen to sign the former Rangers right-back with the London club offering a reported £4 million for the Scot, who cost Spurs £9m from Rangers in January 2008.

But Hutton opted for a reunion with Alex McLeish at Villa instead.

Hutton has played for McLeish with both Rangers and Scotland and the manager is an admirer of the 26-year-old’s attacking style.

McLeish also completed the season-long loan signing of streiker Jermaine Jenas, also from Tottenham. Hutton, has fallen out of favour at Spurs, as has midfielder David Bentley, who completed a season-long loan switch to West Ham hours after Scott Parker moved in the opposite direction in a £5 million transfer.

Several Spurs players made moves away as the clock ticked down to the 11pm deadline, with England striker Peter Crouch and midfielder Wilson Palacios both leaving White Hart Lane to join Stoke, who also signed Cameron Jerome from Birmingham.

The Potters paid Spurs £10m for Crouch and £6m for Palacios.
