Romanian side ‘troll’ Legia Warsaw with Celtic shirts

THE furore surrounding Legia Warsaw being kicked out of last year’s Champions League qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player was reignited last night - in Romania, of all places.

The Ekstraklasa side were ejected from the Champions League last season, after Bartosz Bereszynski was brought on as an 86th minute substitute in Legia’s 3-0 second-leg win over Celtic at Murrayfield.

But Bereszynski had been sent off in the previous year’s European competition and as a result was suspended for the matches against Celtic.

Celtic were awarded the tie 3-0, meaning that, after Legia’s 4-1 win in Poland, the Hoops progressed on the away goals rule.

Botoșani - who recently signed former Hibs and Dundee United midfielder Scott Robertson - had been drawn to face the Polish side in this year’s Europa League qualifiers.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Legia booked their passage into the next round with a 3-0 victory in Romania, and a comfortable 4-0 aggregate scoreline.

But it looks like Botoșani decided to poke fun at Legia - by dressing their ballboys in Celtic shirts.

Incidentally, Robertson played the last 17 minutes, coming on as a sub for Raul Costin, with Guilherme, Nemanja Nikolic and Aleksandar Prijovic getting on the scoresheet for Legia.
