Former Celtic striker Simon Donnelly appeared to tout former striker Henrik Larsson for a job in a late night social media message discussing the Parkhead manager's role.

News of Neil Lennon’s impending departure emerged overnight and was confirmed early this morning with a statement to the stock exchange from the club confirming the manager’s immediate resignation.

Donnelly, once of Parkhead and later assistant manager at Dundee United, offered up an image of fan favourite Larsson – who is assistant manager to Ronald Koeman at Barcelona – when reacting to the breaking news on Twitter.

He wrote: “New management? Who we thinking?” and included an image of the Swedish striker celebrating a goal at Hampden in the CIS Insurance Cup.

Larsson would be an emotional candidate having scored 175 goals over seven years at Parkhead and is still lauded for his time in the Hoops.

He is currently assistant manager at the Nou Camp though has managed in his own right at Helsingborgs in his homeland.
