Brechin pull back the leaders

Brechin breathed new life into the Second Division title race by defeating leaders Livingston 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Craig Molloy. Just when it looked like Livingston would take home a point Molloy popped up three minutes from time to dart into the box and finish off with a fierce shot past Tony Bullock.

Airdrie United put a dent into Forfar’s promotion hopes as they defeated the Loons 2-0 at the Excelsior Stadium. After a goalless first-half teenager Ryan Donnelly opened the scoring on with a shot on 49 minutes and Scott Gemmill ensured the three points stayed in Lanarkshire with a header 19 minutes from time. It was Forfar’s first defeat since November and first in the league since early October.

Dumbarton, who for so long were propping up the Second Division moved 11 points clear of the foot of the table following a convincing 3-0 win over the ten men of visitors Peterhead.

Both sides had early chances before Mark Gilhaney scored after 32 minutes when he stroked a left-foot shot home.

Things got worse for the Balmoor side when defender Davie Donald was sent off six minutes from half- time for fouling Jordan Halsman as he broke through on goal.

Gilhaney doubled Dumbarton’s lead on 54 minutes when he converted a pass from Andy Geggan and McShane made it three with an hour played when he knocked the ball home from close range.
