Florence reaches semi-final

Edinburgh's David Florence qualified smoothly for tomorrow's C1 semi-finals at the European Canoe Slalom Championships near Barcelona yesterday, but one of his main rivals was eliminated.

The Olympic silver medallist went through in tenth place, inside the top 20 qualifiers, unlike Slovakia's double Olympic champion Michal Martikan who missed out in 25th.

Florence later failed to help Britain through to tomorrow's C1 team final.
