East Fife ladies scoop three national titles

BOWLS: East Fife won the SIBA women’s singles, junior singles and two-bowl pairs at Ardrossan yesterday.

Lesley Gordon put the first silverware on the table with a 21-8 win over Dumbarton’s Michelle Keenan, while in the two-bowl pairs Karen McAndrew and Celia Smith enjoyed a straight sets win over Blantyre’s Caroline Brown and Margaret Letham.

In the afternoon singles final, Lynn Stein made it a clean sweep for the Methil club.

She stood 15-15 after 20 ends against Midlothian’s Stacey Laidlaw, but three ends later it was all over as she scored three doubles in a row to take the title 21-15.

Blantyre’s Iain McLean regained the men’s singles title he held in 2007.

He finished strongly, reeling off a 2, 3 and 1 finish to edge out Arbroath’s Andy Fuyre 21-19 and leave the Angus man as the runner-up for the second time in three years.

Bainfield beat Falkirk to the title in the men’s two-bowl pairs.
