Craigen keeps his cool to send University through

Early exchanges in this King Cup second-round tie saw both sides going close with neither keeper being troubled.

On 15 minutes, however, Gretna keeper Connor Grant was forced into making a fantastic double save to deny Edinburgh's Colin Cameron.

A good move by Gretna's Ian Cumersky and Dean Rea saw the latter strike a shot from 25 yards just off target.

James Earl was controlling play in the middle of the park for the home side and his link-up play with wingers David Renyard and Daniel Rayson was giving the visitors problems.

Reilly was denied by Mark Tait when he saved his shot from inside the box.

Shortly after that, the keeper saved a McMath header. At the other end, Callum Murray screwed his shot wide when in a good position to score.

Gretna's Rea then saw his free kick narrowly miss the target just before half-time .

In the second half, Tait was in the thick of the action as he firstly denied Cumersky and then Rea as Gretna took control of the match.

A good move involving Renyard, McMath, Reilly and Rayson opened up the visitors' defence with Rayson having his shot blocked on the line.

At the other end, Grant saved a fine shot from James Brownie.

With the game heading for extra time, Edinburgh got the breakthrough when John Jardine fouled James Craigen in the area, the University player converting the penalty by sending Grant the wrong way.
