Changing room chat: Congleton’s game lasts for 24 hours

Congleton rugby club has set a record for the sport’s longest-ever match by playing continuously for more than 24 hours to raise money for charity and earn a place in The Guinness Book of Records.

A 44-man squad was split into teams named “Congleton Bears” and “Mali Lions”. After a meagre 40 points had been scored in the first 21 hours, the defences were exhausted and the Lions ran out 889-715 winners.

The match lasted 24 hours, five minutes, 12 seconds.
