Bohemians clash key to Hibs' derby prep

Colin CALDERWOOD today insisted Monday night's friendly against Irish outfit Bohemians will play a vital part in Hibs' preparations for next month's derby against Capital rivals Hearts.

The Easter Road side were left facing a month out of action after tonight's SPL clash with Celtic was postponed due to the Glasgow club's rearranged Scottish Cup tie against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

But, as the Evening News revealed yesterday, Calderwood moved quickly to rethink his plans and was delighted when the Dublin-based side agreed to travel to Edinburgh for a challenge match.

Tickets for the game have been priced at 10 for adults and 5 for concessions but due to time constraints it will be cash at the gate while only the East and West Stands will be open.

Calderwood believes the visit from the "Bohs" will be an attractive proposition for Hibs fans starved of football, with their side inactive from their 1-1 draw against St Johnstone on March 5 until Hearts pitch up at Easter Road on Sunday, April 3.

Bohemians, managed by one-time Dundee United target Pat Fenlon, currently sit top of the Irish Premier League on goal difference from their greatest rivals Shamrock Rovers although they are only two games into their season. And the fact their matches are staged on a Friday night - Bohemians visit Dundalk this weekend - has allowed the opportunity for Hibs to extend an invite for them to come to Edinburgh at short notice. Hibs boss Calderwood said: "With the Celtic game being postponed it is imperative we get some game time between now and the Hearts match.

"In addition to some bounce games, we are delighted Bohemians are coming over to give us a real test at Easter Road. They have shown over the past few seasons how good a side they are, and it's an ideal game for us in this quiet period.

"It will also give the supporters a great game to take in at the stadium as we build up to the derby."
