Runaway cow found on farm

THE cow named Yvonne, whose escape into the woods of Bavaria has kept all of Germany engrossed, has been tracked down after three months on the run.

An animal sanctuary, which has assumed ownership of the cow, yesterday said a farmer had called to say she had wandered on to his property.

A sanctuary employee confirmed the cow was Yvonne by checking her ear tag.

The brown dairy cow escaped from a Bavarian farm in May, then hid in forests. A few days later, she was involved in a near-collision with a police car, and local authorities labelled her a public menace.

Groups of tracker dogs and hunters were dispatched to find her, and a pop song hit the German charts celebrating her dash to freedom. The sanctuary bought Yvonne and led efforts to give her permanent sanctuary.
