Police hunt wife’s father after couple shot dead

POLICE in Pakistan say they want to interview the father of an American woman who was shot dead along with her husband, a Glasgow-based businessman, in an apparent honour killing.

Uzma Naurin, 30, from New York, and Saif Rehman, 30, had travelled to Pakistan for a family wedding, but relatives believe they may have been the victims of a family feud.

Their car was ambushed in the city of Gujarat, according to eyewitness acciounts, which suggest their driver stopped the car as four gunmen approached.

Mr Rehman was shot dead before Mrs Naurin was abducted. Her body was found a few hours later hidden in bushes nearby.

Mr Rehman’s sister and her two-year-old daughter were unharmed.

Shakir Rehman, brother of Saif, who ran a mobile phone shop in Glasgow, said the couple had arrived in Pakistan for his wedding last month.

They had later travelled to Gujrat to visit Mrs Naurin’s father and were killed on 1 November as they returned from a shopping trip.

“We are all so shocked by what has happened,” said Mr Rehman. “They were with the driver of his father-in-law, but the driver is missing.”

He added that the couple were married three years ago in Manchester, but tensions between relatives had surfaced recently.

“The problem was that they were from two very different places and had got married outside Pakistan in the UK,” Mr Rehman said.

Friends in Scotland said Mrs Naurin worked in sales for Costa Coffee and was based in New Jersey.

She grew up in New York where her father is a taxi driver.
