Welfare officers issue appeal after cat shot

Animal welfare officers have appealed for information after a cat was shot by an airgun in Newburgh, Fife.

The four-year-old cat, named Mia, had been missing for two weeks when she returned home on Thursday, 9 June. Scottish SPCA senior inspector Steven Gray said: "When the cat came home, her owner noticed a scab on her back.

"On closer inspection she could feel a small lump and took her to the vet where an X-ray revealed that Mia had been shot and the pellet was still in her back. An operation was necessary to remove the pellet as it was close to her organs.

"We think Mia was shot at close range so she was very lucky to survive the attack."
