Warning over 'oil addiction'

ENVIRONMENTAL group WWF Scotland has called on an Edinburgh-based oil firm to ditch plans to drill around Greenland.

WWF today used the first anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico to urge Scotland to end its "oil addiction" and harness its renewable energy potential.

It said city-based Cairn Energy should end plans for exploratory drilling in the Arctic. Dr Richard Dixon, director of WWF Scotland, said: "Chasing difficult and expensive oil in the Arctic would mean even more emissions and huge risks to the fragile environment."
