United star's 95mph 'test' in 40mph zone

A SCOTTISH Premier League footballer has appeared in court and admitted "testing" his £60,000 sports car by driving at almost 100mph in a built-up 40mph zone.

Dundee United defender Mihael Kovacevic, 22, was caught driving his black Audi A8 at "grossly excessive speeds" in Dundee city centre.

After his court appearance yesterday, the Swiss full back said: "Maybe next time it I want to speed, I should go to Knockhill."

Police officers carrying out speed checks could hear Kovacevic's speeding car "from distance away" before they pulled him over.

Kovacevic pleaded guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court to a charge that he drove his Audi A8 4-2 Quattro Auto in the city's East Dock Street dangerously and at speeds up to 95mph in a 40mph zone on 23 October last year.

Sentence was deferred until next month for social inquiry and community service reports.

An earlier charge that he had been doing 104mph was amended to a reduced speed of 95mph.

Defence agent Graham Walker said: "Although he was confused about the speed limit on that road, thinking it was a 70mph zone, he regrets travelling at that speed."
