Tributes paid to retired midwife found dead at home

A retired midwife who was found dead at her home was a "wonderful" mother who "touched many, many people's lives", her daughter told mourners at her funeral today.

Ann Geddes was discovered dead at her home in Panbride Road in Carnoustie, Angus, on Sunday February 7.

The 63-year-old had previously been Head of Midwifery at St James's Hospital in Leeds. She had also worked in Glasgow and Edinburgh before she retired to her native Carnoustie.

Her husband Roger Geddes, 61, has been charged with her murder.

Today, her daughter Angela Geddes told mourners ar Carnoustie Church: "I have lost my greatest friend, my best advisor, my biggest motivator, my number one. I could rely on my mum no matter what.

"There was so much we still wanted to do together

"I stand here with a heavy heart but I am uplifted by the number of people who have come today as a mark of respect to my mum, to celebrate her life and to offer support to our family."

Mrs Geddes was a member of Carnoustie Golf Club, which lowered its flag to half mast as a mark of respect, and was a member of the flower committee at Carnoustie Church, where her funeral was held today.

She "always had a positive outlook on life", her brother Ian Richardson said.

"In her work in the maternity units of Edinburgh and Leeds she guided many lives into this world. Ann knew how precious the gift of life was and she lived hers to the full.

"We have precious memories of a beloved mother, a dutiful daughter, a sister who was a sister, a dear aunt and a thoughtful niece."

Mrs Geddes was being interred at Parkgrove Crematorium in Friockheim later.
