Traffic plan wins award

A MULTI-million redevelopment of the Grassmarket which was criticised by local traders has won a top award.

The council's head of transport, Marshall Poulton, was presented with the prize for best urban transport design by the Princess Royal at an industry conference in York. Judges commended the council for the quality of the "pedestrian experience" that has been achieved in reclaiming space from what was once a traffic route with associated car parking.
