Tax freeze on for Midlothian

COUNCIL tax is to be frozen in Midlothian for the fourth successive year.

Midlothian Council agreed to accept a recommendation that the freeze be maintained at a meeting of the full council.

However, members heard that the council still needs to make cuts of 1.5m to deliver a balanced budget for 2010-11.

Details of these cuts will be announced in late February.

Members agreed to maintain the council tax freeze in order to retain a Scottish Government incentive worth more than 1m.
