Switch on to energy advice

Scots could save £180 million a year by taking simple energy saving steps, according to new research.

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) said that insulating cavity walls and lofts up to 270mm, replacing old-fashioned bulbs with compact fluorescent ones and turning appliances off would not only save householders hundreds of pounds a year but also cut 900,000 tonnes of CO2, the equivalent to taking 310,000 cars off Scotland's roads.

This is Energy Saving Week and an EST roadshow is offering free, impartial advice on how to save money and energy and stay warm this winter.

Advisers will be at Napier University's Merchiston campus tomorrow, 10.30am-3.30pm, and Craiglockhart Campus on Friday, 10.30am-3.30pm. More information is available at www.energysavingtrust.org.uk
