Scotmid has award right in the bag

THE Edinburgh-based convenience store chain Scotmid has beaten off competition from supermarket giants Tesco and Asda to be named Scotland's "best multiple retailer of the year".

It secured the prestigious title at the Scottish Retail Excellence Awards 2010 after demonstrating its commitment to the Scottish economy.

Colin McLean, Scotmid's chief operating officer, said, "Our family of businesses includes Scotmid Co-operative, Semichem and The Fragrance House and in each of these businesses we have been able to demonstrate that we have been working hard to give our customers an absolutely brilliant shopping experience.

"To receive this recognition, especially when we were up against some of the biggest names in British retailing, is a massive vote of confidence to all of our brands throughout Scotland."
